Drop Spindling – Beyond the Single

$60.00

Instructor: Kim Specht

Class Time: 12 to 3pm

Let’s take the next steps to increase your drop spindling skills. We will focus on two areas, spinning consistent yarns and plying. There’s so much to cover, techniques for handling your spindle and fiber, direction, angle, and amount of twist (TWI, WPI, grist), balanced yarn. And plying – use of quills, Andean, plying from singles, even two ways to chain ply!

This is a class for suspended spindling, but much of the information pertains to all kinds of spinning. Join us for some demonstrations, plenty of guided practice, and lots of smiles.

about Kim Specht

I live on a farm near Prairieburg, Iowa. I recently retired from teaching but still can't find enough time in the day for the knitting, spinning, and felting I love to do. And weaving is 'looming' in the not-too-distant future! I've had a small flock sheep for over twenty years, always breeding for healthy sheep and beautiful fleece. My Romney and Border Leicester fleeces have won awards at festivals in six states. At these festivals, I regularly attend classes taught by nationally known artists.

My classes are planned and organized, including scaffolded learning experiences and end-of-class goals. I plan for time to answer questions yet keep things moving with a sense of humor. I love combining my love of teaching and the fiber arts.
